A CASED PAIR OF 25-BORE FLINTLOCK TRAVELLING PISTOLS,
circa 1790, with 6 1/4in. slightly swamped rebrowned twist octagonal sighted barrels signed 'D. EGG LONDON' and engraved with a band of foliage the breech (one barrel pitted around the touch-hole), silver fore-sights, gold-lined touch-holes, iron tangs each engraved with a martial trophy, rounded border engraved bolted locks each signed 'D. EGG', figured walnut full stocks,each butt chequered with a bold diamond pattern, each diamond quartered and with four small quatrefoils, dark horn fore-end caps, iron mounts including trigger-guards each retaining traces of original blued finish and with acorn finial, iron belt hooks (possibly later working additions), and horn-tipped ramrods, London proof marks, in associated refitted case relined in green baize with accessories including pistol-flask, the lid with D. Egg trade label (some wear), the exterior with flush-fitting carrying handle.
