30in. black powder proof only damascus barrels, ribs engraved 'STEPHEN GRANT & SONS, 67A. ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON.', and '1' and '2', some pits and dents, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/2 choke in all, H. Phillips patent sidelever lever-cocking actions, patent no. 4809 of 1879, carved fences, automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, topstraps engraved 'PATENT', actions engraved 'STEPHEN GRANT'S PATENT' and engraved with fine scrollwork, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening, No.1 stock broken through, No.2 with 15in. stock including 1 1/4in. wooden extension, No.2 with light damage to fore-end, weight 6lb. 9oz., in their brass-cornered oak and leather case (lid mostly detached, distressed condition overall), exterior of lid marked 'HON. L. O'BRIEN'

Provenance: We are kindly informed by the makers that this pair of shotguns were completed with 30in. barrels for the Duke of Leeds, the date of completion is not known.

George Osbourne, 9th Duke of Leeds was born in Paris on 11th August 1828. He was to marry Frances Pitt-Rivers, daughter of the 4th Baron Rivers. Osbourne succeeded to his father's titles in 1872 and on his own death in December 1893, his eldest son and namesake acceded to the Dukedom.
