A FINE AND RARE 16th CENTURY JAPANESE TACHI SIGNED UMETADA MYOJU,
circa 1590, with excellent condition curved 26 1/4in. blade, the left side deeply chisel-carved with a Horimono of a three-clawed dragon chasing a flaming pearl, the right with a stylised yari, prominent straight hamon, two menuki-ana to the signed tang, the blade itself housed in a magnolia-wood shirasaya and together with a set of ceremonial tachi mounts in the ancient style, including a shitogi tsuba with engraved and gilded detail, white samegawa rayskin covered tsuka with en-suite kashira, the samegawa with applied gilded bronze stylised seed decoration (losses), the decoration continuing to the mounts of the brown lacquered saya, one suspension mount absent
