A CASED 20-BORE SINGLE-BARRELLED PERCUSSION SPORTING-RIFLE, serial no 1151,
circa 1840, possibly converted from an earlier flintlock, with browned octagonal 29 1/2in. barrel, replacement dove-tailed sights, engraved bands at breech with platinum line and vented plug, flat slightly curved borderline and scroll engraved lock, sliding safe behind the scroll engraved dolphin headed hammer, figured walnut half-stock with iron furniture including heel-plate and raised pistol-gripped lower tang, gold oval escutcheon to the wrist engraved with a crowned garter, flat underside to butt fitted with an eyelet for sling, twin barrel keys with plain gold escutcheons, under-barrel rib with original mahogany ramrod, the rear pipe with eyelet for sling (fore-end cracked and expertly repaired on left hand side); TOGETHER WITH a possibly associated storage case lined with green baize (compartments loose), the outer covered with a blacked canvas
