Product Details

W.J. RIGBY, DUBLIN
A RARE 16-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-SHOT 'CARBINE', serial no. 8984,
manufactured in 1843, with re-browned damascus 29 3/4in. barrel, block fore-sight, flat-topped breech, plain top-tang, plain back-action lock signed 'W.I. RIGBY', walnut three quarter stock with brass furniture, the top-spur of the heel-plate stamped with an Irish registration number 'W.I. 494' and iron under-barrel ramrod

Other Notes: Rigby produced these 'carbines' in small numbers, initially in flintlock then later in percussion from the mid 1820's to the 1850s. Gun number 8984 was one of only four 'plain carbines with 30in. barrels' supplied in 1843 and was supplied to a Reverend Martin along with a matching bayonet, now sadly absent. It is also possible that it may have had a captive ramrod originally, although the records do not state this.
