A 12-BORE EARLY VARIANT 1860 PATENT 'LOCKFAST' SLIDE-AND-TILT SIDELEVER PINFIRE HAMMERGUN, no visible serial number,
30in. bold twist barrels, rib engraved 'J.D. DOUGALL. 23 GORDON ST. GLASGOW' and with scroll detailing at the breech end, Dougall 'lockfast' patent action, patent no. 1128 of 7th May 1860, rearward facing articulated sidelever with side retaining catch, carved serpentine fences, action face with protruding bosses, standing breech with further cylindrical stud (engages with a recess in lump), non-rebounding back-action locks with finely engraved faceted hammers, best border and fine scroll engraving, the lockplates with a scrolling banner engraved 'DOUGALL', the triggerguard with the Glasgow coat of arms and motto 'LET GLASGOW FLOURISH', some wear and external pitting overall, 14 1/2in. stock with steel buttplate, weight 7lb. 2oz.
