A LIMITED EDITION CASED SET COMPRISING A .44-40 LEVER-ACTION RIFLE AND A .44-40 SINGLE-ACTION REVOLVER, both serial no. 1472WC,
manufactured in 1984 in a limited edition of 4,440 pieces, the rifle being a Model 94 with a 24in. barrel and blued finish, the left hand side of barrel etched in gold 'lightning' letters 'WINCHESTER' and bracketed by gilded scrolls, the right hand side with a landscape illustration of the factory in gold bracketed by similar scroll work to the left, the receiver featuring a background of gilded scrolls surrounding the entwined letters of 'W' and 'C' in an oval, the Winchester trademark to the front, the right with similar scroll-work but with a portrait of Oliver Winchester to the rear, the top-tang with facsimile signature in gold of Oliver Winchester, highly figured chequered walnut butt-stock with crescent heel-plate, heart-shaped insets to the chequered panels, colour-hardened finger-lever, chequered walnut fore-end with similar heart-shaped insert, blued barrel-band and full-length under-barrel magazine, its companion revolver being a Model Single Action Army (series 1 style), with blued 7 1/2in. barrel, en-suite scroll-work to the rifle bracketing the Colt trademark on the left hand side and similar scroll-work bracketing a landscape depiction of the Colt factory on the right, plain colour-hardened frame, plain blued cylinder with panels of gilt scroll-work and an oval with the entwined letters 'W' and 'C', the opposite chamber with gilded Colt trademark, facsimile signature of Samuel Colt in gold to the blued back-strap, figured smooth walnut grips and under-barrel ejection rod with bullseye thumb-piece THE PAIR COMPLETE with their walnut display case, the interior lined and compartmented in the Continental style, the outer lid with etched brass plaque stating the manufacturers and bearing facsimile signatures of Colt and Winchester, the whole set remaining in fine order and appearing unused and also including their respective manufacturers card and polystyrene cartons
