TIPPING & LAWDEN, BIRMINGHAM
A CASED .30 RIMFIRE FOUR-SHOT VEST-PISTOL OF PRESENTATION QUALITY, MODEL 'SHARPS PATENT', serial no. 535,
circa 1870, with 3in. barrel-group, the muzzles and breech end inlaid with fine gold wire arabesques, the top of barrels also inlet with further gold wire forming a border around the maker's name also inlet in gilt (top left barrel with small dent at muzzle), the centre of the barrel sides engraved with scrolls and a stippled panel forming a thumb grip, fully scroll and florally engraved brass frame with stippled background, the frame signed 'TIPPING & LAWDEN SHARP'S PATENT' in a circle around the hammer axis screw on the left hand side (strong traces of gilding), centrally mounted blued hammer with rotary auto-indexing nose, carved ivory grips with raised foliate design and featuring seated Indian figures, one to each side, blued push button opener, complete with a period mahogany storage box probably from a similar but lesser grade pistol, re-lined in red baize and containing a cleaning rod, oil bottle and turn-screw
