A 12-BORE 1887 PATENT 'ROUND ACTION' TRIGGERPLATE-ACTION EJECTOR, serial no. 6387,
28in. replacement nitro chopperlump barrels (circa 1975), rib engraved 'JOHN DICKSON & SON. EDINBURGH.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke, Dickson patent round-action incorporating patents 9399 and 10621 of 1887, use number 1426, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, profusely engraved with fine acanthus scrollwork and floral bouquets, brushed bright and reblued finish overall, 14 3/8in. figured stock including 3/8in. ebonite extension, weight 6lb. 7oz., in a lightweight leather case
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was completed on 18th December 1911, for "Ovens"
Research would indicate this to be General Gerald Hedley Ovens (1865 - 1933) served in the Afghan War of 1880, Waziristan Field Force in 1894 and 1895, and the South African War 1899 - 1902. By 1914 he was a Brigadier General serving in Belgium and France.
