A CASED 16-BORE PINFIRE DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, MODEL 'BAR-IN-WOOD', serial no. 11676,
circa 1860, with rebrowned damascus 27 3/4in. side-by-side barrels, the top-rib marked 'PATENT' and with traces only of the New Bond Street address, bead fore-sight, shallow carved percussion fences, engraved short top-tang and broad top-lever, the lever also signed 'WESTLEY RICHARDS PATENT' borderline and scroll engraved bar-action locks with dolphin headed engraved hammers, the locks signed 'WESTLEY RICHARDS' on the bars, walnut butt-stock re-chequered at the wrist, engraved iron furniture (rubbed), replacement horn chequered heel-plate, re-chequered walnut splinter fore-end with cross-key fixing and complete with a period walnut storage case possibly refitted for this shotgun and lined in green baize with replacement trade labels to inside of lid and containing an oil bottle and vintage cleaning rod
