A 12-BORE 1863 PATENT 'WEDGE BOLT' DOUBLE-BARRELLED UNDERLEVER PINFIRE SPORTING GUN, serial no. 1309,
29in. bold damascus barrels, rib engraved with a banner with Harlow details (worn), possible conversion from muzzle loading, carved serpentine fences (repair to right side of the standing breech), sidelocks with ornately carved hammers, J.T. and E. Harlow patent breech loading drop-down barrel, patent no. 2380 of September 28th 1863, use number 705, bold acanthus scroll engraving, the underlever with scrolling banners engraved 'PATENT', 'WEDGE BOLT', 'NO. 705', pineapple finial, the fore-end with possible replacement wood and arrowhead insert foreward of the toplever, 13 7/8in. highly-figured stock with repair to toe and steel buttplate
Provenance: Harlows specialised amongst other things in the conversion of muzzle loaders to breech loading, this particular patent being the favoured method. In 1866 they charged £10 for the service.
