A FINE BRITISH INFANTRY 1786 PATTERN OFFICER'S SWORD WITH BLUE AND GILT BLADE,

circa 1800, with straight tapering 32 1/2in. double edged blade, the first half of blade engraved with gilded scrolls and trophies on a blued ground around a narrow silvered panel to both sides inscribed 'FOR MY COUNTRY & KING', the armorial of King George III to both sides near hilt, gilded double kidney-bean shaped guard, straight quillion with carved tip, 'D' shaped knuckle-bow with carved terminus where it meets the gilded urn pommel, variegated silver wire-bound grip and complete with its leather scabbard (surface crazed, some creasing) and gilded mounts, the throat signed within an oval margin 'No. 37 CHARING CROSS NEAR THE ADMIRALTY' around 'TATHAM TO HIS MAJESTY' and together with a collection medallion numbered variously '1'. '21' and '36'
