A .455 WEBLEY 'No.4 PRYSE' REVOLVER RETAILED BY RIGBY, LONDON, no visible serial number,
circa 1879, with nickel-plated octagonal 5 3/4in. barrel, raised sighting rib signed 'JOHN RIGBY & CO, LONDON', thumbwheel cylinder release, break-open frame with twin 'Pryse' locking bars, fluted automatic-ejecting cylinder, double action mechanism, chequered one-piece walnut grip, lanyard ring to the heel-plate, the heel-plate engraved around the edges 'G. SMYTH' and 'COLD'M GDS', the whole retaining much plated finish throughout and complete with its retailer's leather storage case, the outside of lid marked 'G. SMYTH, COLD'M GDS', the interior lined in red baize with tray for ammunition and containing a turnscrew, oil bottle and cleaning rod, original parchment 'John Rigby' label inside lid (catch absent)

Provenance: G. Smyth was a Lt. Colonel in the Coldstream Guards, retiring from service in 1881. He was also the last squire of Heath Hall, Yorkshire. Some notes and family history compiled by the vendor accompany the lot
