AN UNUSUAL 20-BORE 1894 PATENT GRIP LEVER-COCKING BACK-ACTION SIDELOCK NON-EJECTOR, no visible serial number,
circa 1895, 30in. nitro reproved damascus barrels (in 2025), engraved with a woven band at the breech ends and with a flash of foliate scroll, tessellated matt rib gold-inlaid 'C.F. AHLGREN' within a foliate-bordered panel, 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/2 choke, RN11236LPH serial number added to barrels and action flats after reproof, treble-grip action, carved serpentine fences, cocking-indicators, stepped-tail back-action lockplates, Carl Frederick Ahlgren patent No. 6269 of 1894 grip lever-cocking and safety mechanisms, where a horn grip-scaled pivoting lever along the lower tang acts as a cocking lever and safety, with an additional grip safety mounted to the rear of the top tang, both must be engaged to enable firing, the action, lockplates and furniture carved in relief with fine scrolling floral and foliate motifs interspersed with a pair of hunting hounds with a crane on the left, the right with a brace of waterfowl and a crowing capercaillie, the triggerguard with a black grouse, all set against a finely stippled matt background, retaining traces of original colour-hardening and finish, 14 1/4in. stock including buttplate, with cheekpiece, sling swivels, weight 7lb. 2oz.
