A PATTERN 1842 SOCKET BAYONET BY JOHN ROE, early 1840s, with 17 in. triangular blade fullered on the two reverse sides, forte marked 'crown / B / 16 / EX / John Roe', with reversed 'TH' under, the socket marked with a '6'; an original bayonet made for the Pattern 1842 musket as confirmed by the blade being 432 mm. with a total overall length of 530 mm., markings clear, heavily cleaned and blade with notch, presumably to allow past display mounting
