BY DESCENT FROM THE JACOB FAMILY
A GOOD .524 PERCUSSION JACOB RIFLE SIGNED SWINBURN & SON, no visible serial number,
dated for '1860', with 24in. barrels each rifled with four deep grooves, dove-tailed fore-sight, rear-sight of one standing and three folding leaves calibrated to 300 yards and a folding ladder sight calibrated to 2,000 yards, dated back-action locks each signed 'SWINBURN & SON PATENT', walnut half-stock, iron mounts including hinged patchbox-cover engraved 'JACOB'S RIFLES', iron sling mounts, correct ramrod and bayonet lug mounted at muzzle
Provenance: The Great-Great Uncle of the current vendor was Sir Claude Jacob, who acquired the rifle (and bayonet, Lot 203) in Quatar at the end of the 19th century. It later passed to Lt General Sir Ian Jacob and then to the Grandfather of the vendor, also a Jacob
