American, circa 1860, with extra-heavy octagonal 32in. barrel, dove-tailed for a fore-sight (missing), the muzzle rounded for a ball-starter, threaded for an under-rib (missing), drum and nipple breech, plain back-action lock, the barrel attaching to the action body in the fashion of a 'buggy' rifle, disc-style peep-sight on the top-tang, straight-hand walnut butt-stock (cracked at hand) with iron crescent heel-plate, spurred trigger-guard and double-set triggers TOGETHER WITH a modern fitted wood case with numerous later accessories including a ball-starter, peep-sight, hammer, powder flask and bullet moulds
