circa 1840, 28in. twist sighted barrels signed 'CHARLES LANCASTER. PATENT. 151 NEW BOND ST. LONDON' on the rib (signature worn), scroll engraved patent breeches each with platinum plug (nipples missing), tang engraved with scrollwork and a pheasant, locks each signed 'C. LANCASTER PATENT' and engraved with scrollwork and pheasants, figured walnut half-stock with chequered grip, scroll engraved iron mounts including scrolled trigger-guard, silver escutcheon and barrel-bolt escutcheons, and later rod (some wear to engraving on mounts, some discolouration), London proof marks, in original fitted mahogany case lined in tooled pigskin, the lid with Chas. Lancaster trade label, the exterior with flush-fitting brass carrying handle and circular brass escutcheon.
