A 4-BORE SINGLE-BARRELLED ROTARY-UNDERLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 5489,
for 1884, 48in. (4ft.) black powder only reproved barrel, sight rib engraved 'STEPHEN GRANT. 67A ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON.', large action with carved and sculpted fence, elongated top-strap, Jones patent rotary-underlever, rebounding back-action lock, plain finish overall, retaining traces of colour-hardening, 13 1/2in. pistolgrip stock (bruised at hand) with steel pistolgrip-cap and heel and toe plates, fore-end with grip-catch release lever, minor losses and insert repairs to edges, weight 21lb.
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed the gun was completed in 1884 for a Dr Fitzgerald, It is noted to be in the possession of a Capt. C.T. Fitzgerald, USA in 1951 and was subsequently sold by Atkin, Grant & Lang to R Johnson in 1998
