AN UNUSUAL COMPOSED PAIR OF .41 (RIMFIRE) COLT No.2 DERRINGERS IN A LATER 'GAMBLER'S' CASING, serial numbers 4790 and 8872,
circa 1885, each pistol with hinged 2 1/4in. ovoid barrel, the top-flats signed 'COLT'S PT. FA. MFG. CO.. HARTFORD CT. USA' and 'No.2', iron frames engraved with acanthus scrolls, central hammers and chequered walnut birdshead grips, in a two tier rosewood box inlaid with brass fretwork and lined and compartmented in blue baize, the lower tray holding the two derringers with a central compartment for a leather dice cup, the lift out top-tray with five poker dice, two common dice and a pack of vintage playing cards
