AN 8-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-BARRELLED LIVE PIGEON GUN SIGNED E. THOMPSON, no visible serial number,
circa 1860, with round tapering damascus 33 1/4in. Birmingham proved barrel engraved with a steeple and scrollwork above the breech, bead fore-sight, short sighting rib and moulded side-pieces at breech, squared patent breech-block with platinum plug, border and scroll engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved bar-action lock signed 'E. THOMPSON', moulded and engraved hammer, chequered walnut half-stock (some hairline cracks to side-cheek and behind lock), iron furniture, moulded horn fore-end tip and no provision for ramrod, trigger-guard and lock cleaned of finish
Provenance: This shotgun is almost certainly from the shop of Edward Thompson, who traded from various addresses in Birmingham between 1857-1880
