* AN 1827 PATTERN RIFLE NCO'S OFFICER'S SWORD TO THE ALSTON MOUNTAINEER RIFLES, SIGNED W. JONES & CO., LONDON,
with Wilkinson style slightly curved 32 1/2in. blade in good state of polish, the blade sided etched with scrolls and arabesques around a banner bearing the regimental name and Rifle Regiment bugle device, inlet proof mark at fort, iron gothic hilt with pierced Rifle Regiment bugle device, wire bound rayskin grip, together with its iron scabbard
Provenance: The Alston Mountaineer Rifles (also known as the 6th Cumberland Corps) were formed in 1860 and by 1876 they numbered 55 men across all ranks, making them the second smallest corps in the Cumberland Rifle Volunteers. In 1880, the eight corps of the Volunteers were amalgamated and the Alston Mountaineer Rifles simply became known as 'J' Company
