circa 1840, with multi-stage turn-off round 2 1/2in. barrel (cleaned), private proof stamps, borderline and scroll engraved squared boxlock action with radiused edges, left side signed 'WARD & STEELE', central hammer (cleaned), with top tang push-forward safety locking the hammer, slab-sided walnut grip with white-metal wire inlay
