A SCARCE .32-40 (W&B) MARLIN MODEL 1881 LIGHTWEIGHT LEVER-ACTION REPEATING RIFLE, serial no. 16696,
third model circa 1886, with tapering octagonal 24in. barrel measuring 3/4in. at muzzle, the top-flat with signature and patent dates ending in 'RE-ISSUE NOV 9 1880', nickel bladed 'Rocky Mountain' fore-sight, elevating buckhorn rear-sight, slab-sided receiver with top ejection and sliding loading gate, plain trigger and exposed hammer, walnut straight-hand butt-stock, iron furniture including crescent heel-plate, plain fore-end and full length under-barrel magazine, traces only of finish


Provenance: With a production of only around 20,000 rifles across all models and calibres, the Marlin 1881 is really quite scarce. Marlin records indicate that only 1785 rifles were manufactured in the .32-40 calibre
