circa 1894, with round smoothbored 20in. barrel signed on the top and with patent dates to 1889, block and blade fore-sight, carbine-style ladder rear-sight, Birmingham proofs, the solid frame marked 'MARLIN SAFETY' on the top and fitted with side saddle-ring, the top-tang without model designation and drilled for a tang-sight (absent), walnut butt-stock with iron carbine semi-crescent heel-plate, plain walnut fore-end and full length under-barrel magazine tube loaded via a side-gate
