for 1877, early second model with octagonal 28in. barrel, dove-tailed fore-sight, a blanked-off dove-tail bisecting the signature and a further large blanked-off dove-tail originally for an 'Africa' type multi-leaf rear-sight at breech, now fitted with a conventional buckhorn sight, reblued receiver with early style dust-cover with central chequered oval thumb-piece and applied guide-rail, exposed hammer, the trigger possibly originally a set type, top-tang marked 'MODEL 1876', walnut butt-stock with iron crescent heel-plate, central trap, iron finger-lever, brass cartridge lifter with calibre designation and walnut fore-end with iron nose-cap and full-length under-barrel magazine, fitted with period sling swivels
