transitional variant circa 1864, with octagonal rifled 6 3/4in. barrel signed on the top-flat 'COL LE MAT' within an open ended border, dove-tailed fore-sight, 'L.M.' and star mark to right side of barrel-throat, smoothbore grape-shot barrel beneath, nine shot border and scroll engraved cylinder, open iron frame, large central hammer with selectable nose, chequered walnut grips with domed iron heel-cap and loose lanyard ring, earlier style spurred trigger guard, pull-down barrel locking catch and articulated rammer mounted to left side of barrel, all matching numbers, slight traces of finish
