A SCARCE 12-BORE PINFIRE 1864 PATENT BAR-IN-WOOD HAMMER SPORTING GUN, serial no. 191,
made to his patent no. 297 of 1864, with 28in. fine damascus barrels signed on the top-rib 'NEWTON, MANCHESTER', scroll engraving to rib end at breech and decorated with flambé needles around the pin-holes, bold scroll engraving to the top-tang, chequered boat-shaped push-forward thumb-catch to rear of tang, scroll and gamescene engraved bar-action locks signed 'NEWTON'S PATENT', each featuring an oval vignette of a hunting dog on the tail, scroll engraved dolphin hammers, chequered walnut butt-stock with bar-in-wood joint to the chequered walnut splinter fore-end with cross-key fastener
