A .450 (3 1/4IN. BPE) FALLING-BLOCK SPORTING RIFLE, serial no. 2831,
for 1872, with tapering round 28in. barrel signed 'ALEX'R HENRY, 12 SOUTH ST. ANDREWS ST. EDINBURGH PATENT No.1688', block and blade fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with further folding leaf, plain squared receiver marked on the bridge 'PATENT No.773', moulded back-action lock signed 'ALEX'R HENRY' and with side-hammer striking the rear of the falling block, chequered walnut butt-stock, smooth iron heel-plate, push-button release under-lever formed around the front of trigger guard, chequered walnut fore-end with cross-key, traces of finish


Provenance: Donald Dallas's volume 'Alexander Henry, Rifle Maker' notes this rifle as being completed on the 14th September 1872 as a 3rd Quality Single Breech-loading Rifle with the 1865 Patent Use number '773'
