A 44-BORE PERCUSSION PHILADELPHIA DERINGER, serial no. 7,
circa 1845, with octagonal rifled 3 1/2in. barrel, the top of the breech signed 'DERINGER PHILADEL.' and with engraved borders, the left upper flat marked 'P' with zig-zag borders, pinched nose at muzzle and bead fore-sight, shallow standing notch rear-sight to the engraved top-tang, acanthus leaf engraved curved back-action lock signed 'DERINGER PHILADEL' and with engraved white metal 'moustache' below the nipple, walnut half-stock with chequered birdshead grip, further engraved white-metal mounts including shield shaped escutcheon to wrist, teardrop heel-plate to pommel, trigger guard bow and tang (cracked and repaired), bow-tie barrel key escutcheons and moulded nose-cap, short under-barrel rib and probable replacement ebony ramrod
