AN EARLY 28-BORE (SMOOTHBORED) 1880 HEEREN PATENT FALLING-BLOCK SPORTING GUN, serial no. 14,
dated for 1881, serial number on barrel only, 27 5/8in. nitro reproved barrel (smoothbored to 28-bore in 1924, possibly from .450/400), N&M barrel number 203, N&M action number 204, round profile barrel with short sight flat engraved 'NAGEL U. MENZ BADEN BADEN (rubbed), block-mounted open sights with two folding leaf sights marked for 50, 100 and 200 with white metal-inlaid sight lines, low block-mounted bead foresight, Christiano Arturo Juan Antonio Heeren Y Massa patent falling block action, German Reich Patent no. 13250 of 11th July 1880, fully engraved with bold Germanic scrollwork with ornate bordering, each side with a scrolling banner, engraved 'ARTHURO HEEREN Y MASSA' to the left and 'NAGEL U. MENZ BADEN-BADEN' to the right, the top of the receiver with a single stylized flower, 14 1/4in. figured pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece, horn pistolgrip-cap, engraved steel buttplate with central trap, the fore-end with crosspin release and schnabel tip, the left side with historic impression '450 / 400', weight 5lb. 2oz.
