hold-open toplever, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, gold-washed internals, gold-washed non-selective single trigger, rolled-edge triggerguard, the action and furniture engraved with best bold stylised acanthus scrollwork on a matt background surrounding a banner gold-inlaid 'J. PURDEY & SONS', the lockplates exquisitely engraved with a brace of pheasants in flight against a woodland background on the right, the left with a nye of pheasants with a backdrop of a bouquet of pheasants breaking cover, signed 'P. Coggan', the underside with a fine vignette of a pair of woodcock in flight and a banner engraved 'J. PURDEY & SON. LONDON.', 15 1/4in. very highly-figured semi-pistolgrip stock including 3/4in. leather covered recoil pad, weight 6lb. 13oz. (original) and 6lb. 11oz. (extra), in its fitted brass-cornered oak and ostrich-skin guncase with canvas and ostrich outer, with a full complement of J. Purdey accessories.
The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was completed in 1997 with two sets of barrels.
