AN IRISH 16-BORE SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOL,
late 18th century, with 11in. swamped octagonal sighted barrel engraved with a band of beadwork at the breech (brushed bright, fore-sight missing), border and foliate engraved tang and lock, the latter with stepped-tail, roller and signed 'WALLACE' (some wear to engraving, hammer repaired), walnut full stock with flat-sided butt (stock cracked through and repaired, fore-end and butt replaced), silver mounts including trigger-guard engraved with a bouquet on the bow and with acorn finial, silver escutcheon engraved with the initials 'RJ', and later horn-tipped ramrod (some pitting to lock), Birmingham private proof marks, barrelsmith's mark 'SW' for Samuel Wallace, Dublin.
