circa 1886, and probably built on a modified French Gras rifle, with 32in. sighted barrel, octagonal receiver with straight bolt-handle, concealed short tubular magazine inside the modified fore-end, walnut three-quarter length stock with iron furniture, iron nose-cap with no provision for cleaning rod, exposed iron surfaces lightly stained
