28in. nitro chopperlump barrels gold-inlaid with the makers name, the breech end inlaid in gold with rococo scrollwork, 6mm ventilated matt top-rib, side-ribs, 3in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 1/4 choke, finely carved fences, manual safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, rounded bar, pinless lockplates with concealed flush release access panel, non-selective single-trigger with double rolled-edge triggerguard, the action, furniture and lockplates fully engraved with an elegant montage of spaniels, retrievers and setters with quail in finest bulino style, the whole on a finely matted background and with gold-inlaid rococo highlights, Boss style fore-end engraved en suite, the triggerplate signed 'TORCOLI inc.', bright finish, 14 3/8in. exhibition grade pistolgrip-stock with Prince of Wales grip, engraved steel pistolgrip-cap and steel heel and toe plates, weight 5lb. 12oz.
Provenance: The maker has kindly informed us that this shotgun was completed in 2008 on a dedicated .410 scale action and built to the "highest order".
Tony Galazan's shotguns need little by way of introduction; he seeks perfection in all he produces and does not shy away from altering an established and well-respected design (such as the Boss-type locking) if he believes it can be bettered. This is aptly illustrated in this shotgun where he has designed the draws and wedges as mating surfaces so that there can be no axial or longitudinal play.
The action is produced from a single billet of machine tool steel, lending great strength and rigidity, and the barrels are machined and drilled rather than cold-hammer forged. Galazan argues that this subjects the parent metal to less stress, thereby ensuring a stronger and more concentric barrel.
The job of producing the sublime engraving was entrusted to Manrico Torcoli, often seen as the father of 'fantasy engraving'. The talents of this Gardonese craftsman place him as one of the world's finest engravers, but this example is unique being the only gun with this combination of game vignettes and gold-inlay.
