A FINE PAIR OF 22-BORE FLINTLOCK SINGLE-SHOT HORSE-PISTOLS WITH GILDED MOUNTS, UNSIGNED, no visible serial numbers,
North Italian circa 1745 with swamped iron 14in. barrels, flat sighting plane for the last 10in. with dove-tailed gold-washed boat-shaped beads, gilt musical trophies to the muzzles and mid section, the remainder of the sighting plane with gilded running scroll-work gaining in profusion at the flat sided breeches, flat curved bevel-edged lockplates engraved with seated ladies in period costume, hunting dogs and dead game, lozenge-shaped pans, un-bridled frizzens, bevel-edged springs with feathered tails, the hammers engraved with hunting dogs, walnut full-stocks carved around the locks, top-tangs and ramrod channels (both pistols with cracks to fore-ends, one with expert repair at wrist), gilded brass furniture (some wear) including heavy rococco scroll embossed long eared butt-caps, rococco escutcheons to wrists with central busts, pierced sideplates inhabited by monkeys and reclining gentlemen, the scroll engraved trigger-guard bows possibly incorporating a 'Z' initial, faceted ramrod pipes and horn-tipped ramrods
