29in. nitro chopperlump barrels with raised matt rib, tubes engraved 'BOSS & CO. 41. ALBERMARLE STREET. LONDON. W.1. ENGLAND. MADE IN ENGLAND.', the left tube gold-inlaid with a star, 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 3/4 choke in both;
extra 29in. nitro chopperlump barrels with raised matt rib, tubes engraved 'BARRELS MADE BY J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON. ENGLAND.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 1/4 choke;
action with raised side-clips, manual safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, cocking-indicators, articulated front trigger, rolled-edge triggerguard, best bouquet and scroll engraving, brushed bright and reblued finish overall, 14 1/4in. figured replacement cast on stock, beavertail fore-end with Anson push rod access hole, weight 6lb. 15oz. (Boss) and 6lb. 14oz. (Purdey), in a brass-cornered oak and leather case with provision for both sets of barrels
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was ordered by 'Dias do Canto, Lisbon', in 1946 as No.1 of a pair, with side-clips and 29in. barrels with matted top rib 3/4 choke, and that the safety was to be non-automatic.
