circa 1865, with 33in. rebrowned barrel, Whitworth style blued tunnel fore-sight with post and bead, elevating ladder rear-sight graduated to 1200 yds., military-style lock (traces of colour) signed 'WHITWORTH RIFLE CO. MANCHESTER', chequered walnut three-quarter stock, iron furniture, the trigger-guard tang marked 'BEST', three barrel-bands, no bayonet-lug and iron under-barrel ramrod
