A FACTORY ENGRAVED .31 PERCUSSION FIVE-SHOT REVOLVER, MODEL '1849 POCKET', serial no. 91471,
for 1854, with octagonal 4in. barrel signed in script within a scroll bordered panel 'SAML COLT', brass bead fore-sight, engraved band at muzzle, scroll engraved panels to the barrel sides, plain cylinder with a roll-engraved 'stagecoach hold-up' scene, fully scroll engraved open frame with 'COLT'S PATENT' within a shell-shaped cartouche, rear-sight notch to hammer-nose, scroll engraved hammer-sides, plated grip-straps and trigger-guard (heavily polished with some loss to detail), one-piece ivory grip and scroll engraving to the under-barrel rammer linkage, iron surfaces stained with some frosting
Provenance: Whilst the records for this particular pistol are no longer available, it is only two numbers away from a revolver verified to have been part of Colt's exhibition stock and the engraving has been attributed to Gustave Young
