A VERY RARE 12-BORE W.M. SCOTT 1874 PATENT QUADRUPLE-GRIP TOPLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 3459,
29 3/4in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrels, the breech ends with feathered band engraving and acanthus scroll detailing, rib engraved 'H. HOLLAND. 98 NEW BOND ST. LONDON.' (refreshed), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, action incorporating J. Purdey patent double bite, patent no. 1104 of 2nd March 1863, use number 3116, with additional Scott patent external cylindrical sliding bolts, patent no. 2052 of 12th June 1874, operating in unison with the Purdey bites via W.M. Scott patent toplever and spindle, patent 2752 of 25th October 1865, carved percussion fences with broad strikers, rebounding back-action locks with finely engraved dolphin hammers, best fine acanthus scroll engraving with scrolling and beaded bordering, the underside with central floral design, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening, 14in. highly-figured two-piece construction semi-pistolgrip stock with ornate chequering borders, 1/4in. wooden extension and horn buttplate, fore-end with Scott trade-marked thumbplate 'key' release catch, patent no. 3756 of 19th November 1873, weight 7lb. 3oz.

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was ordered on the 21st (May?) 1875 for a Mr Randale (or Randall) The records hold the following information:
