circa 1855, with blued heavy octagonal 25 1/2in. barrel (fading to brown), signed on the top-flat 'SHARPS RIFLE MANUFG. CO. HARTFORD CONN.', dove-tailed fore-sight with brass blade, standing notch rear-sight with folding ladder, rounded nocksform, receiver with slanted breech-block, the back action lock signed 'SHARP'S PATENT 1852', facility for tape-primer, long top-tang with folding vernier tang-sight, walnut butt-stock with iron patch-box and semi-crescent heel-plate, iron under-lever forming the trigger-guard, double set-triggers and walnut splinter fore-end with white-metal cap, the whole retaining strong traces of original finish

Exhibited: An old label attached to this rifle states that it was purchased by the vendor circa 1969 from the United Services Museum where it had been on display between 1866 and 1966
