A SCARCE .303 BOLT-ACTION REPEATING CARBINE, MODEL 'R.I.C. CARBINE', serial no. 2628, ref no. 1724,
dated for 1896, with blued 21in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, additional applied bayonet sleeve band to the muzzle, elevating ladder rear-sight, turned-down bolt action receiver with magazine cut-off and safety catch on the cocking-piece, blued dust-cover, walnut butt-stock with side-mounted sling bar, provision for identity disc (removed), brass heel-plate with central trapdoor, five-round magazine, walnut tapering three-quarter fore-end made from three pieces, nose-cap with bayonet bar and provision for clearing rod, (missing), provision for top-wood (missing), complete with its Weapons Collection identity disc
Other Notes: This Lee-Enfield Royal Irish Constabulary carbine is one of about 9000 converted from Lee-Enfield Cavalry carbines in 1904 (the other 1100 were formed from done from Lee-Metford carbines). These were used by the Royal Irish Constabulary during the Irish War of Independence from 1919-1921. They were adapted to take the Pattern 1888 bayonet.
