for circa 1871, with 4 1/2in. blued, sighted octagonal barrel, the top flat engraved 'R. S. GARDEN. 29 PICCADILLY. LONDON', blued border-line engraved frame marked 'TRANTER'S PATENT' in an oval at breech, wing-nut hammer safe to left hand side, swiveling ejector rod marked 'TRANTER'S PATENT' stored in the cylinder arbor, plain colour-hardened cylinder with rope band to front, one piece chequered walnut grip, the front-strap bearing Garden's number '2857', iron butt-cap with lanyard ring, bright hammer and trigger, the whole a fine example retaining much original finish
