A CASED PAIR OF 24-BORE RIFLED BOXLOCK SIDE-HAMMER BELT-PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1845, with re-browned octagonal, deeply rifled, Birmingham proved 5 1/2in. barrels signed along the top-flats in gothic script 'MANTON, LONDON', engraved band at muzzles and white-metal fore-sight beads, scroll engraving to breech-blocks and standing notch rear-sights, carved snails with screwed plugs and ribbed nipples, scroll engraved, radiused corner boxlock side-hammer actions with scroll engraved hammers, chequered walnut bag-shaped butts with rectangular clipped-corner escutcheons at wrists and white-metal lion-mask butt-caps, iron scroll engraved trigger-guard bows and blued iron belt-hooks, applied under-barrel ribs with captive iron ramrods held by engraved stirrups, some original traces of colour TOGETHER WITH their original mahogany brass-mounted storage-case, compartmented and lined in green baize, parchment 'John Manton' label to inside of lid and containing a number of period accessories including a small bag-shaped powder-flask, a nipple-key, scissors mould, turn-screw, oil-bottle, cleaning rod and 'Joyces' cap-tin
