A 20-BORE FLINTLOCK SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number,
dated 1667 and probably French, with 43 1/4in. swamped sighted 'Spanish' barrel, the octagonal breech section incised with marks and bearing the dated, grooved top-tang, curved and radiused lock chiselled with scrollwork and a running hound on the tail, engraved with a running fox and further scrollwork beneath the pan, lightly carved figured walnut full stock (repairs around lock and to fore-end), steel mounts including trigger-guard with raised finger-rest, horn fore-end cap, and horn-tipped ramrod, the whole cleaned with some loss to detail
