A 54-BORE FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOL WITH EARLIER BARREL AND POMMEL, no visible serial number
circa 1670, the barrel and pommel circa 1645, with tapering 14 3/8in. barrel, the plain forwards section engraved with a band of foliage at muzzle and intersection, the rear portion deeply relief chiselled and engraved with a standing figure of Minerva above a portrait bust of a nobleman, each on a punched ground and within a framework of raised scrolls issuing forth from a relief carved grotesque mask with a foliate crown, solid top-tang relief carved with overlapping foliage, radiused lockplate signed 'BICKEN' within a field of scrolls forwards of the hammer, bearded profile head engraved to the pointed tail (hammer, frizzen and one side-nail replaced), later walnut full-stock with raised carved panel around the top-tang, iron flattened oval short eared pommel chiselled in relief with swags, a trophy of fruit and foliage, and a classical mounted warrior on a punched ground, later pierced and engraved sideplate, iron trigger guard bifurcated at the front and with pierced and engraved floral finial, later ramrod pipe and iron mounted ramrod
