circa 1877, with round, tapering 33 3/4in. Metford rifled barrel (caustically cleaned of finish), block at muzzle to accept a dove-tailed spirit-level tunnel fore-sight, patent breech with short sighting rib, borderline engraved top-tang with provision for vernier sight, borderline engraved bar-action lock signed 'JNO. RIGBY & CO' and marked with the John Rigby trademark monogram at the tail, chequered walnut pistol-grip half-stock, chequered iron heel-plate with provision to rear-mount a vernier sight for back position shooting, horn-capped pistol-grip, blued trigger-guard bow and horn moulded fore-end tip with no provision for ramrod TOGETHER WITH its manufacturers black canvas and leather bound storage case (distressed), compartmented and lined in green baize and containing a number of original accessories including the full suite of sights, cap and patch tins, a leather covered powder flask with patent nozzle (at fault) and a number of Wimbledon scorecards and match-books mostly named to a Capt. Hall of the 22nd Regt. and all dated around 1880-96, the inner lid of case with Rigby parchment label, the outer initialled 'R.S.G.'
