31in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrels, sunken rib re-engraved 'J. PURDEY 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET LONDON', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, wall thicknesses below recommended minimum, carved percussion fences, Purdey patent cocking-indicators, patent No. 1464 of 25th May 1866, rebounding sidelocks with dolphin hammers, fine acanthus scroll engraving, much refreshed overall, 14 3/8in. figured stock (some minor cracks) including buttplate, fore-end wood with repairs
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was completed in 1869, with 31in. barrels as No.1 of a pair for a J. Bateson
