circa 1846, with 29 1/2in. browned twist barrels signed 'GEORGE & JOHN DEANE, No. 30 KING WILLIAM STREET, LONDON BRIDGE on the top-rib, silver fore-sight, scroll engraved case-hardened patent breeches, finely engraved tang decorated with scrollwork and a pheasant and retaining traces of original blued finish, finely engraved signed locks each decorated with scrollwork and a pointer all within a roped border, case-hardened scroll engraved Deane Patent hammers, finely figured walnut half-stock, chequered grip and fore-end, finely scroll engraved mounts including blued trigger-guard decorated with a pointer, shield-shaped gold escutcheon engraved with a crest, original white metal mounted ramrod with worm-end, much original finish throughout, London proof marks,TOGETHER WITH its manufacturers original mahogany fitted case lined in tooled leather with accessories including a Hawksley powder-flask, a leather bodied shot-flask, additional loading and cleaning rod with detachable handle, turn-screws, oil-bottle, embossed cap-tin plus other sundry cleaning items, the lid with George & John Deane trade label, the exterior with circular brass escutcheon and flush-fitting carrying handle

Other Notes: George & John Deane were granted Registered Design No. 7754 for percussion locks with detachable strikers in 1843.
