Product Details
WILKINSON, LONDON
A RARE 8-BORE PERCUSSION UNDER-HAMMER SPORTING-GUN, no visible serial number,
circa 1845, with octagonal 30 1/2in. barrel (possibly smooth-bored), bead fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight, the top-flat at breech signed 'WILKINSON & SON GUNMAKERS TO HER MAJESTY PALL-MALL LONDON', unusual interlocking scroll engraved top-tang, hooked under-hammer mechanism with long integral flat-spring (repaired) and direct contact sear, walnut straight-hand half-stock (slimmed from original), replacement heel-plate and nose-band, iron ramrod
Other Notes: Originally designed as a military arm the under-hammer Wilkinson is rarely encountered. Rejected by the Board of Ordnance for fear that the cap would be easily lost, Wilkinson went on to produce a few more examples for sporting use, this being one of only a handful known. Would benefit from careful restoration.
